BLURB REVEAL: Lethally Entangled

BLURB REVEAL

Reese Marshall is as beautiful as she is deadly. A lethal killer for the Covert Organized Bureau of Registered Assassins, her life consists of assigned missions and living life on her own terms. But sometimes ghosts from the past can throw even an assassin’s life into more chaos. When the man she believes is responsible for her mother’s death, Mendoza Cabrera, resurfaces, it makes Reese question everything she thought she knew about the circumstances of her mother, Angela’s death.

Bothered by the questions she starts to have about her own agency, Reese turns to Jax Montgomery, a fellow agent and Angela’s former partner, for help looking into what really happened on her mother’s last mission. When Reese finds herself the target of an assassination attempt, she’s certain that she’s on the right track with her suspicions, forcing her to realize she needs Jax’s help more than ever, all the while trying to come to terms with her burgeoning feelings for him.

When Jax asks Reese to accompany him on a mission of his own, she agrees and soon finds herself face to face with her childhood best friend, Alexis Kastellanos. Adding to the current chaos of her life, Alexis’ appearance forces Reese to deal with her own repressed feelings for Alexis and her deepening relationship with Jax. All the while, Reese has no idea that she is still far from safe.

Forced into hiding, Reese is devastated when Alexis is kidnapped in a ploy to get to her. Vowing that nothing will stop her from rescuing her friend and discovering who is responsible for wanting her dead, Reese is unprepared when she discovers all the ways that her mother’s shocking death, C.O.B.R.A., and everything Reese thought she knew about herself are all lethally entangled.

To 2019 And Beyond

Hey.

Yeah it's me. Back from a much longer hiatus than expected. For those of you that didn't know I've spent this year in an accelerated Registered Nursing program that was nursing on speed. Think 3 semesters, self taught plus clinicals from hell. But, thank the Lord it is over now which brings me to trying to reconnect with my muse in the midst of preparing to study for boards. Yeah I still have one last hurdle to jump and then I'm home free.

In the meantime, since 2018 saw my muse pretty much die, I'm praying that she makes a full comeback in 2019. So on that note the following are my goals for 2019.

1. Complete Deadly Arrangement- Book 1 of The Corrupt Cassinellis (Organized Crime Romance)

2. Complete Revision of Pawn- Book 1 of The Ugly Stepsister Chronicles (Fairytale Retelling)

3. Complete Crossing Lines (African American Romance)

4. Complete Revision of Siren's Song- Book 1 of The Mermaids of Astaeria (Paranormal Romance)

5. Complete Goddess by Surrender- Book 3 of The Demi-God Daughters (Paranormal Romance)

6. Complete The Venus Deception (Romantic Suspense)

Six projects. Four of them completely new drafts, two are completed drafts that need to be revised. Yeah I've got some lofty goals, but I feel like after my writing life was non-existent in 2018, I need to go into the new year with a fire lit under my butt. So here's to leaving behind a stressful 2018 and walking into 2019 with my muse.

Devious Little Lies- Chapter Excerpt Share

Today I'm sharing a chapter excerpt from Devious Little Lies. Enjoy!

                                           Chapter Fifteen

“How long have you been watching me?”

“Long enough to know you’re upset,” he said.

He was in the shallow end of the pool with the water barely up to his waist, staring at her as if she was the only thing in his universe.

“I’m fine,” she lied.

“No you’re not. I heard you inside.”

He made a move towards her and she put up her hand to stop him from advancing.

“You were spying on me?”

He stopped and crossed his arms. An annoyed look marred his face. “I didn’t have to. I’m surprised the whole block didn’t hear you screaming.”

“I wasn’t…” she started to say, but quickly closed her mouth. What was the point in telling another lie? She treaded to the middle of the pool as her tears came again. Rena didn’t fight them because right now she could care less if the whole world saw her crying. She was past being able to hold in her pain. Closing her eyes she turned away and cried. A few moments later, strong arms were holding her and she was pressed against his chest.

“It’s okay, Rena. You’re not alone.”

Wrapping her arms around Shane she cried harder, pressing her face into the curve of his neck. His hands caressed her back slowly. It felt wonderful to have someone hold her and care about her pain. She stopped crying long enough to look at him. He brushed a lock of hair from her face.

“Why do you care so much?”

Shane’s hand cupped her cheek. “We’re friends.”

“We barely know each other.”

“We know each other enough. Now, tell me what’s got you so upset?”

His eyes implored her to confide in him and she wanted to. Sometimes it was so hard to hold onto everything.

“Come on. You can tell me anything,” he coaxed.

A small smile touched Shane’s lips as his hands stopped caressing her back. Instead they hovered just above her ass, in territory neither safe nor appropriate. Suddenly she was hyperaware of exactly how close they were and how right it felt to be in his arms.

“My husband…I’m not sure if we should stay married any longer.”

His eyebrows lifted in surprise. “I wasn’t expecting that.”

“Forget it. I shouldn’t be talking to you about this.”

She tried to disengage from the circle of his arms, but he stopped her.

“I told you when we first met that your husband didn’t deserve you. What did it take for you to finally realize that?”

The bluntness of his statement jolted her, but he was right. So right.

“I think I’ve realized that over the past few years.”

“Then why do you stay with him?”

“It’s complicated,” she hedged.

“Is it really?”

His hands slid lower until he was cupping her ass. She should tell him to stop and then slap the holy hell out of him for daring to get fresh with her, but she didn’t. Tonight she just didn’t care.

“Yes. A part of me still loves him, but a bigger part hates him so much.”

“Where is your husband, Rena? Is he always away on business?” Shane asked.

She laughed, a harsh bitter sound to even her own ears. “Business? That’s what got him in trouble in the first place. My husband is in a federal penitentiary serving fifteen years.”

“Wow. That’s a lot. How long has he been in?”

“Five years.”

“Rena…” his voice trailed off.

“I know, it’s a long time.”

“Too long. How long were you married before he went in?”

“Five years.”

“And were they happy?” he probed.

“The first three were.”

Shane shook his head. “That’s not good enough. What happened?”

“He wanted children, a son specifically, and I couldn’t give him one. One that lived anyway.”

Shane’s eyes were soft as he pulled her even closer. Her breasts were crushed against his chest and she tried to ignore how her nipples hardened.

“You miscarried?” he asked, his tone soft.

“Three miscarriages after our stillborn son, Reno. That’s why you heard me laying into Tony. Yesterday would’ve been our son’s ninth birthday and my bastard husband didn’t even
bother to call. He wants to pretend like our baby never even existed.”

She swallowed back tears as his lips pressed to her forehead. Rena couldn’t remember a time she’d ever felt anything so sweet.
                                                              ***********

Tony Rosetti was a real bastard and a federal penitentiary was too good for him. What kind of man punished his wife for her inability to have a child? Shane knew the answer to that question. A man that was the scum of the earth. Rena needed to unyoke herself from her husband before it was too late.

He kissed her forehead from left to right. A soft sigh escaped her mouth as his kisses moved lower to the bridge of her nose and then the soft tip. He eased back to look at Rena. Her eyes were dark and there was a pronounced flush on her cheeks. Against his chest he could feel the increase in her breathing and the hard pebbles of her nipples. She was aroused, heartbroken, and vulnerable and Shane couldn’t remember a time he’d ever wanted a woman more.

Her tongue swiped across her bottom lip and he couldn’t take it any longer. His lips crashed down on hers and nothing else in his world mattered. Mouth opening, his tongue dove inside to taste her sweetness. Rena’s tongue met his and he sucked on it softly. He grew hard as she moaned against his mouth. If he couldn’t have her he was likely to combust.
Lord help me.
                                                         **********************
Rena’s body burned like a flame as Shane kissed her. His lips were firm and hot against hers, desperate for her kiss. As their tongues dueled, she could feel how hard he was for her. His kiss was all consuming and she reveled in it. He kissed her like a man who knew exactly what he wanted and that was her. Only her.

She gripped his shoulders, holding him tighter and kissing him harder. He lifted her against his rampant desire and they rubbed slowly against one another. Deliciously slow. His hands were gripping her ass tight enough to leave a mark, but she didn’t care. She didn’t care about anything except the way he was making her feel.

Shane’s lips left hers and trailed down her neck. The feel of his tongue made her moan and as his mouth went lower and lower, her heart squeezed tight in anticipation. Her chest
heaved and then his lips were there kissing across the top of her breasts. With a deft hand he freed her right breast and began to suckle at the same time his other hand slid inside her bikini bottoms to toy with her clit.

“Shane…mmmm.”

His tongue laved around her nipple before he suckled her hard again. Rena couldn’t help herself as she pressed closer to the hand that was rubbing her clit with vigor. She could feel the pressure building at the base of her spine as the tiny flicks of pleasure started to get more intense. When the orgasm ripped through her body, Rena held onto Shane as the only stable thing in her universe. She convulsed as the pleasure spasms rocked her body to the core.

Devious Little Lies Excerpt-NEED

His girlfriend slept like the dead. Tricia hadn’t stirred once despite the sounds of her

mother’s yelling and screaming. He, on the other hand, was too twisted in knots to sleep.

Today had been eye-opening in so many ways and as Tricia slept beside him in sleep shorts

and a t-shirt, he wondered for the first time if he’d finally gotten himself into something that

had the potential to blow up in his face. Tricia and Rena were like fire and water, complete

opposites and he was attracted to both of them for very different reasons.

What he and Tricia had was safe, comforting, and wonderful, but the fire he felt being

in the same room with Rena was unlike anything he’d ever experienced. It was a force of

nature that couldn’t be contained. He wished he could forget about the simmering attraction

between them as they’d made small talk, but most of all he wished he could forget the

sadness in her eyes. He couldn’t now, not after hearing what he just had and listening to the

pain in her voice.

She needed someone to be there for her.

              She needed him.

THE YEAR IN REVIEW & LOOKING FORWARD TO 2015

THE YEAR IN REVIEW & LOOKING FORWARD TO 2015

Happy New Year everyone. I'm back from vacation. At the end of every year you look back over everything that happened and you make goals for the next year. At least I do, when it comes to writing anyway. When it comes to my life Jesus take the wheel. But I digress. Despite some setbacks and unforeseen things, 2014 was pretty good to me as I continued on the road towards being a professional author.

January- I was blessed to sign with an agent, Nikki Terpilowski of Holloway Literary Agency. In a day and age where getting picked up by an agent is still a hard thing to do, I remain ever so grateful.

April- I complete the second novel in my Demi-God Daughters series, Goddess by Chance.

August- I complete my fifth novel, my first mob romance, Dirty Little Secrets.

November- Goddess by Chance is released by Evernight Publishing.

December- Dirty Little Secrets is sold to Samhain Publishing and expected to release Summer 2015.

So looking back over 2014, things were pretty darn good. I wrote 2 novels and both those novels have homes. I signed with an agent at the beginning of the year and by the end she had me a book deal. Yes 2014 was good to me in the pursuit of my dreams and I hope 2015 continues to be even better.

MY 2015 GOALS

1. To finish my second mob romance, Devious Little Lies and find a publishing home for it.
2. To start and complete my third Demi-god Daughters novel, Goddess by Surrender and find it a home at Evernight Publishing with the others in my series.
3. To finish Siren's Embrace, the second in my Mermaids of Astaeria series that has yet to find a publishing home. But I'm passionate about this story and this series and even if it does not find a traditional publishing home I will self publish it myself.
4. And if I'm really, super ambitious maybe I can start on the 1st novel in an edgy, contemporary romance series called Fated.

That's a lot in addition to keeping up my grades in nursing school so I can graduate, studying to pass my boards, looking for a job and hoping Mr. Right will finally decide to show up. It's a lot, but when you have a passion you have to put in the work to make sure that it goes somewhere and I intend to do just that.

I hope you all have an awesome year. What are you looking forward to in 2015? Let me know.

IN THE WORKS

IN THE WORKS

It's been a while since I blogged. Life has a habit of getting in the way. But now that I'm back (so to speak) I thought I'd give a quick update as to what has been going on with me writing wise.

My second round of revisions for my upcoming paranormal mermaid fantasy romance are in the hands of my agent. Currently waiting to see if another round is required before the big submission process to publishers. I'm on pins and needles.

I'm hard at work on the second urban fantasy romance novel in my Demi-God Daughters series, GODDESS BY CHANCE. I'm about 15 chapters in and currently wondering if this book will be longer than the previous Demi-God Daughter book as I have not yet reached the first major arc of the story. I'll keep writing and see what happens.

And also I'm working on another story and (drum roll please) I'm actually writing it on my laptop. Shocking yes. If you've read any of my previous blog posts you know that I predominately write in longhand using journals. So me creating a story on my laptop is completely out of the norm and quite surprising to me. The new story is tentatively titled DIRTY LITTLE SECRETS and it is not in the fantasy romance realm from which I usually write.

After starting to read some romantic suspense novels, I decided I'd like to try and do something different than the genres I usually write in. The start of the novel was born from one simple sentence replaying over and over in my mind: "Last time I checked, it was my name on the door." Yep that pretty much started it. I don't know how the story will end up as I do not even have any of my usual few small planning tools I use per novel. This one will really come from the seat of my pants.

So far I'm about 10K into DIRTY LITTLE SECRETS and I'm really enjoying writing it. Again, no idea how long it will be or what will ultimately happen at the end but I'm excited to see where it goes and even more excited my muse is speaking to me as I stare at the computer screen. I will share with you the current tagline I'm trying to keep in mind: Ava Nicole Hill's carefully ordered world is about to be turned upside down and she is powerless to stop it.

In addition to trying to balance two novels at once, I also have purchased three writing resources I'm trying to find time to read: Showing & Telling; Bullies, Bastards & Bitches; and The Writer's Guide to Character Traits. I don't know about you but I believe a writer should never stop learning or trying to improve their craft. Do you have any resources you can't live without? Are you working on one or more projects? Drop me a line. I'd love to know.
